Knights Ready for Season Opener

Posted: Updated:

As the sun shines down in the Rattlesnake the Hellgate Knights are taking full advantage of their last few practices before the regular season gets underway.

"It's awesome it's hard not to have any negative thoughts when you're out on the softball field on a beautiful sunny day and you've got a group of girls that are excited and ready for the season," said Head Coach Lisa Macki.

"I'm super excited to get the season off, my last season and I'm really excited to get to know the girls more and it's awesome," said senior Katie Waletzko

The Knights are entering season number two with Head Coach Lisa Macki at the helm, they say the familiarity has been key so far this year.

"It helps a lot because we know what to expect and she knows what to expect from us," said Junior Talley Hill.

"It's been hard my four year but we are getting the program in order and it's getting better and better," said Waletzko.

"So a lot less uncertainty which is how I think a lot of last year was spent sort of figuring things out and getting our feet underneath us, so this year we definitely feel we are hitting the ground running a little bit more," said Macki.

Hellgate has the leadership to make the necessary strides this year but they are a young squad with only four upperclassmen on the roster.  They will be tested in the opening weekend at the Great Falls Jamboree.

"You know there's always those preseason nerves as it's our first game but it's really exciting to get out there and see what we can do and see what we need to improve on.  That's our goal in trying to be better each day so at the end of the season we can be where we need to be," said Macki.

The Knights play Great Falls High and CMR to kick off the Jamboree tournament.
