Jobless Rate Keeps Dropping Where Recession Hit Hardest

KALISPELL -

The latest unemployment numbers out of Flathead county keep dropping.

Manager of the Flathead Job Service Bill Nelson reports an 8.3% jobless rate for February.

This is not only lower than January's numbers by almost an entire point, but it's also lower than the last five Februaries.

As of Wednesday, the job service is just shy of 500 spots they're looking to fill, many of them in construction.

"The northwest corner of the state got hit the hardest during the recession," said Nelson, "so for us to be in single digits basically, to stay in single digits for over a year, is good."

Nelson expects the jobless rate to dip in the summer too thanks in part to the upcoming job fair on April 16.

Seventy-five employers will be taking resumes at Flathead Valley Community College.
