FWP Seeking Proposals For New Bison Herd

BOZEMAN -

Wildlife officials are looking to start new herds of bison in Montana.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking proposals on where they should take up to 135 disease-free bison from Yellowstone National Park.

The bison have been held on Ted Turner's ranch in Gallatin Gateway for several years on behalf of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

The bison have been tested several times to make sure they don't have brucellosis.

Livestock groups have opposed previous Yellowstone bison transfers.

Officials say proposals are due to FWP by April 30 and could be moved as early as November.
