13-Year-Old Girl Kicks, Chases After Attacker With Pocket Knife

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Authorities say a 13-year-old girl Billings-area girl kicked a man who tried to kidnap her in her home and then chased him with a pocket knife when he fled.
    
The Billings Gazette reports (http://tinyurl.com/pql9lh5 ) the incident occurred early Wednesday in Lockwood, adjacent to northeastern Billings.
    
The girl told investigators the man had handcuffs and told her to be quiet and put her hands behind her back.
    
She said the man fled when she kicked him, and she ran after him with the knife. Her mother called 911.
    
A suspect was arrested after police distributed a sketch using the girl's description.
    
Thirty-six-year-old Lester Harley McFerran appeared in Yellowstone County court Monday on burglary and attempted kidnapping charges. Bail was set at $200,000.
    
Online records didn't indicate whether he had an attorney.

    SPOKANE, Wash. - One man is in critical condition after a fight in downtown Spokane early Sunday morning, according to Spokane Police. Patrol officers found the man unresponsive at 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Sprague and Stevens. Witnesses told police the injured man had walked out in front of a taxi and started a fight.
