A new Gallatin County District court judge is assigned to a case involving a convicted rapist who escaped from the Law and Justice center in Bozeman.
Documents filed on Wednesday said District Judge Mike Salvagni will preside over the case of 28-year-old Kevin Anthony Briggs.
On Monday, Briggs pleaded not guilty to five felony charges including sexual intercourse without consent and escape.
Tuesday, Gallatin County Attorney, Marty Lambert requested District Judge Holly Brown take over the case.
Under Montana state law, an attorney does not need to provide a reason as to why they are asking for a new judge in any case.
Briggs is currently being held at the Gallatin County Detention center on a $1 million bond.
