KENNEWICK, WA - Washington wine is winning over the world but now local groups are trying to expand our reach by focusing on attracting big industry players.

The Tri-City Development Council recently shared their 2014 work plan and after meeting with consultants they found the next way to improve the wine industry is to bring new industry investors to our area.

Some of the council's goals include to attract winemakers from other states to relocate here and bring more wine students here to study viticulture.

"Making a concerted effort to reach out to industry, that industry, in other parts of the country and tell them what's going on here and encouraging them to consider a location here," said Carl Adrian, TRIDEC president.

Washington is second only to California in U.S. wine production. Local business leaders see this time as an opportunity to become more competitive in the market place and get a little closer to that number one spot.
