American gained 30 new citizens from 19 different countries on Thursday.

The group of immigrants were sworn in as U.S. citizens this morning during a ceremony at the Russell Smith Federal Courthouse.

U.S. Chief Judge Dana Christensen presided over the ceremony.

Oana Ajrlan, 26, has lived in Billings for the past four years working as an engineer.

She came to Montana from Romania through a student exchange program and says she couldn't be happier to be a new citizen.

Ajrlan said, "I'm proud, I'm very excited, I feel like crying, but it's one of the most important moments of my life, so it's amazing."

Before immigrants are naturalized, they must fulfill requirements established by Congress, which includes taking a test.

After naturalization, foreign-born citizens enjoy nearly all the same benefits the Constitution gives to native-born citizens.
