Bison To Roam Outside YNP Proposal On Hold

BOZEMAN -

Board members of the Montana Department of Livestock have put the decision of whether to let bison migrate outside Yellowstone National Park on hold.

The proposal would allow bison to roam year-round on more than 400,000 acres if the bison population drops below 3,300. Last summer, there were 4,600.

At a meeting on Tuesday, the board wanted to know how the proposal would be funded and the cost it would have to cattle growers in the area.

They are expected to make a decision on the proposal at their May meeting.
