Skier Injured in Avalanche Near Bridger Bowl

BOZEMAN -

A skier is recovering on Thursday night after being caught in an avalanche north of Bridger Bowl.

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office received a report that an avalanche hit a group of skiers north of Bridger Bowl at 1:15 p.m.

Gallatin County Search and Rescue was already on the mountain and found the injured 32-year-old skier from Bozeman.

Authorities said that he was skiing out of bounds in an area called the Barney Avalanche Slide Path, likely causing the slide at the ridge breaking a large cornice free and landed approximately 450 yards down the hill.

The skier dug his way out of the snow and his friends alerted ski patrol before he was transported to Bozeman Deaconess.

Officials warned avalanche danger is high in the area.
