UM Student Accused of Rape Pleads Not Guilty

MISSOULA -

An 18-year-old University of Montana student accused of raping a friend in her dorm room in February pleads not guilty.

Timothy Schwartz pleaded not guilty to sexual intercourse without consent in Missoula District Court on Thursday.

Court documents show the alleged victim and a group of friends, including Schwartz, were in her dorm room.

After the woman's friends left, Schwartz stayed behind, even though the woman asked him to leave.

Investigators said Schwartz got into bed with the woman and raped her.

A tentative trial date is set for June 13.

In December, Schwartz was charged with two counts of burglary in Gallatin County for allegedly breaking into Bridger Bowl.

On Thursday, Schwartz' attorney requested he be released on his own recognizance so he could return to Gallatin County, but Judge Brenda Desmond denied that request.
