Southwest Montana Avalanche Danger Considered High

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN -

Avalanche danger is rated high throughout southwestern Montana after Monday nights snow storm.

The mountains received between 14 and 20 inches of wet and heavy snow. Avalanche experts said this made the snow pack very unstable; making it more likely to trigger an avalanche.

"There's going to be a lot of nature avalanches activity and debris from previous avalanches out there," said Doug Chabot, Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center Director.

Avalanches have caused four deaths in Montana so far this season, which Chabot said is about average.
