Malaysian Airlines Crisis: False Hopes Dismay In Search For Missing Jet

Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew on route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew on route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) - What was first thought to be possible debris from a missing Malaysian Airlines passenger jet turns out to be moss covered trash.

Rescue helicopters and ships rushed to investigate a yellow object resembling a life raft today, but hopes of finding a crash site were once again dashed.

More than two days of search for the Beijing-bound plane that disappeared with 239 people on board have proved fruitless as officials explore various possible scenarios.

With no confirmation that the Boeing 777 had crashed, hundreds of distraught relatives are still waiting anxiously for any news. Thai police and Interpol questioned the proprietors of a travel agency in a Thai resort town that sold one-way tickets to two men now known to have been traveling using stolen passports.
