UPDATE: Fourth Person Arrested In Connection To Kidnapping/Murder Investigation

SPOKANE, Wash.- Within days of a reported kidnapping in Spokane and the location of a body in Stevens County, Spokane Police detectives have arrested a 4th person in connection to the on-going investigation.

Spokane Police detectives have arrested 40-year-old Benito Baldovinos-Mendoza and booked him into the Spokane County Jail on two charges of 1st Degree Kidnapping.

Baldovinos-Mendoza was taken into custody yesterday in Pasco, WA. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail last night. This investigation is on-going. Three other people have been arrested as part of the investigation.  The official cause of death and identity of the body located in Stevens County will be released by the Stevens County Coroner.




UPDATE: 
Spokane Police say they have arrested three people in connection to the on-going kidnapping investigation that has evolved into a murder investigation as well after a body was found in Stevens County on Friday. 

Spokane Police Department Communications Director Monique Cotton said detectives have arrested:
  • 23-year-old Dillon L. Casteel in Kootenai County for 1st Degree Kidnapping. Casteel was arrested at an apartment complex in Coeur d'Alene on Thursday. 
  • 33-year-old Joseph Gillespie was arrested in Spokane County for two counts of 1st Degree Kidnapping
  • 26-year-old Domingo Valdovinos Navarro was arrested in Spokane County for two counts of 1st Degree Kidnapping and one count of 1st Degree Aggravated Murder
Cotton said the investigation is rapidly evolving and more arrests are possible.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT: Spokane Police Detectives have located a body in a rural area near Long Lake.

The body was located early Friday morning after SPD detectives received information that there may be a body in this area connected to the on-going kidnapping investigation.

The kidnapping victim has been located safely. A search warrant was executed with the assistance of SWAT yesterday at a residence near Maple and Knox. This is the location where the kidnapping was believed to have taken place.

SPD detectives will process the scene where the body was located today. The Medical Examiner will release information on the identity of the body located as well as the official cause of death, when this information is determined.

The kidnapping and the discovery of a body is part of an on-going, multi-agency investigation. Details regarding this investigation are limited due to the nature of the investigation.

BREAKING: SPD is investigating a body found in Tum Tum. It is in connection to the kidnapping investigation from Thursday.
Police tell us the body found is not the person who was kidnapped. On Thursday multiple law enforcement agencies served a search warrant at a home in the area of Knox & Maple. We'll post more details when we get them.
