Record Snowfall Boosts Ski Area Business

MISSOULA -

The heavy snowfall may be causing mayhem on the roadways, but skiers and snowboards are rejoicing about the powder.

Many area schools canceled or delayed classes this week after the heavy snowfall, allowing more students to hit the slopes.

Snowbowl owners said they've seen thousands of visitors both yesterday and today, reaching numbers they usually only see on Saturdays.

Some students-- and even some adults-- simply skipped school and work Tuesday after Snowbowl got six inches overnight.

Daniel Puckett, a Missoula 8th Grader, said, "My parents said it would be okay because I have straight A's, so, one day every once in a while is okay with them."

Phil Stempin, a Missoula resident, added, "There was no way I was going in, so we had a great day up on the mountain and it was just fantastic all around."

Snowbowl owners said the increased snowfall has been great for the ski industry across the state.
