MCPS Plans for Major Facilities Upgrades

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

Missoula County Public School leaders are planning major facilities upgrades to improve school access and safety.

MCPS officials said they hope to redesign a confusing entrance to Cold Springs Elementary and other buildings.

Officials also plan to redesign the parking and pick-up/drop-off areas surrounding some schools to improve traffic flow.

They also want to consolidate the four outdated buildings that currently make up Sentinel High School, so students aren't forced to walk outdoors between classes.

Hatton Littman, of Missoula Co. Public Schools, said, "I mean, we're talking about buildings that will get us into the next 50-100 years and this is the moment for Missoula County to really do that planning."

School officials said the last major facilities construction project took place 60 years ago.

The project will require a bond issue, which would be put before voters in the fall of 2015.
