Glacier Fine Arts Academy Could Be A First

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL -

Glacier High School is starting something they believe may be the first of its kind in the state.

This year, the school unveiled the Fine Arts Academy.

It gives special recognition to students studying music, visual art, and theatre who meet certain requirements.

The director of the Academy, Josh Lancaster, says he doesn't know of any similar, four-year programs of study for the fine arts in any other Montana high school.

Head of the theatre department Ivanna Fritz thinks it's a way to give credit where credit is due.

"My daughter got home from tech rehearsal at 8:30 last night, so these kids are really focused," said Fritz.

Fritz says kids are already asking her if they can do more than one area of focus.

Two or more certificates may be possible if they can meet all the requirements, but Fritz says students will have only one concentration, and one set of representative cords at graduation.
