New Whitefish Tourism Leader Hopes To Grow Off Season

Posted: Updated:
WHITEFISH -

The Whitefish Visitor and Convention Bureau has a new leader.

Dylan Boyle is taking over as director of the CVB after the previous director, Jan Metzmaker, retired.

Boyle says one of his goals is growing the shoulder season, that's getting more people in Whitefish during winter, fall, and spring.

Last July, the resort tax on Whitefish retailers, restaurants, and lodging totaled more than $300,000 thanks in large part to an influx of tourists. October and November earned less than half that.

To close the gap, Boyle has worked on advertising in Amtrak trains, and has helped get Whitefish featured in National Geographic Traveler and CNN Travel.

"Although I'm not from here, it really feels like home and you know I grew up in the Rocky Mountain west, skiing and hiking and fishing, so I understand the lifestyle and I live what we promote," said Boyle.

Boyle says he also hopes to recruit more member businesses to the CVB.

Right now, the Bureau lists more than 200.
