Neighbors Say Couple Seemed Happy Before Shooting

We now know the name of the 71-year-old Hungry Horse man who was allegedly killed on Valentine's day by his live-in girlfriend.

The Flathead County Sheriff's Department says 55-year-old Pamela Ruth Haines shot Thomas Eugene Edwards once in the chest after a fight Friday evening.

When first responders showed up, it was already too late and Edwards died right there in his home.

Haines is sitting in the Flathead County Detention Center on an initial charge of deliberate homicide.

Neighbors say Edwards was new to Hungry Horse, and moved just a few months ago from southern California to be closer to his daughter.

"He seemed like he was a pretty happy guy and he seemed like he was on the right path, trying to make a connection with his daughter," said Stevan Atchley, a neighbor who spoke with Edwards a few times.

Sheriff Chuck Curry says they're waiting on lab reports on both Haines and Edwards to see if alcohol played a role in the shooting.
