WHITEFISH -

A 48-year-old Calgary, Alberta man died Sunday at Whitefish Mountain Resort after falling into a tree well on the back side of the resort.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says Thomas Podivinsky was skiing with a friend around noon, then the pair became separated.

When Podivinsky didn't meet up with his friends, they reported him missing to Ski Patrol, who later found him stuck in a tree well.

Curry says Ski Patrol tried, but were unable to resuscitate Podivinsky.

This marks the second fatal tree well accident at Whitefish Mountain Resort within almost one month.

On January 11, a 54-year-old California man died after falling into a tree well in an ungroomed area between Gray Wolf and Big Horn runs.
