Mayor In Idaho Asks Police To Investigate Deadly Dog Shooting

Posted: Updated:
FILER, Idaho (AP) - The mayor of the south-central Idaho city of Filer has asked the Nampa Police Department to investigate the shooting by a Filer police officer of a resident's dog.

Mayor Richard Dunn tells The Times-News (http://bit.ly/NKoQSV) in a story on Friday that he's looking for recommendations going forward.

Filer Police Officer Tarek Hassani on Feb. 8 responded to a report of dogs running loose, and went to the home of Rick Clubb to deliver a citation.

Hassani got out of his cruiser where two dogs began circling and barking at him. He shot and killed a black Labrador named Hooch.

The shooting was recorded on Hassani's dashboard camera and has sparked protests in the small town.

But other residents are defending Hassani, saying he acted appropriately and that Filer has a problem with residents who ignore leash laws.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One of the great parts about living in Spokane, is if you head out of town in any direction, you're going to run into some beautiful farm land. I grew up south of Spokane, near Plaza, and one of my favorite things to do was to sit on the porch at night and stare south towards Rosalia at all of the rolling hills of wheat, lentils, barley and peas.
