Montana Included in One Coal Study

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

The Washington Department of Ecology announced Wednesday Montana will be included in a review of potential increase in coal train traffic.

If built, the Longview, Washington, port would be the largest coal export terminal in North America, exporting up to 44 million metric tons of coal per year.

The Department of Ecology's study will only address the impacts of increased coal train traffic on the state and will not look at the potential effects of increased coal mining.

The U.S. Army Corps of engineers, the other lead agency reviewing the proposed coal port, is conducting a separate study that will not include Montana.
