Spartan Wrestlers Ready for State

"You know every single kid on this team is a competitor, they don't just do this three months out of the year, they do it eleven months a year.  They're not up here to be a part of just high school wrestling they're up here to be a part of Spartan wrestling," said Head Coach Jeremy LaPorte.

The Sentinel Spartans have been waiting for this week all year.  It's state tournament week and they're ready to go out and perform.

"As a team, same thing, confident we have in our minds what we should do and I think we are ready to do it," said Senior Dylan Schulte.

"Really excited, the nerves haven't set in yet but I think come Thursday night when we get to the Metra our nerves will start to set in," said Senior Justin Harbison.

"You know we kind of already have the brackets figured out and I have some scenarios playing out in my head.  We got some pretty good draws, I think, and as long as we come out and compete the way we should and we're capable of I think we will be okay," said LaPorte.

Last year the Spartans took a young team into the Billings Metra and pulled out a third place finish.  It's a tough atmosphere and now they can lean on the fact that they've been there and done that.

"If half of your team had never been to the state tournament before they are going to get there and be awestruck and be shocked by how big it is and how all the classes are there and I think having kids that have been there before is a really big help," said Harbison.

"Going to the Metra it's a big place and there's a lot of people there and it can get to some peoples heads and being there and having that experience really helps," said Schulte.

If the Spartans want to achieve their goals everyone will have to contribute. A point and a half separated them from fourth place last year, so every match is crucial.

"If we have a chance to pin people we need to pin them.  We have to wrestle every match like we want to be there.  Every point matters, every pin matters, every major matters, everything," said Schulte.

The tournament starts Friday and concludes on Saturday in Billings.
