Walsh Sworn Into Senate

Posted: Updated:

Montana's newest Senator, John Walsh, was sworn into Congress Tuesday in Washington D.C.

Vice President Joe Biden administered the oath in the Senate chamber.

Walsh replaces fellow Democrat Max Baucus as Senator, after Baucus stepped down from his position to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to China.

Obama nominated Baucus to the diplomatic role and the Senate confirmed the nomination last week.

Governor Steve Bullock appointed Walsh, his former lieutenant governor, last week.

Walsh was already in the run for the Senate seat, which is up for election in November.

Walsh spent 33 years in the National Guard and commanded more than 700 troops in Iraq in 2004 and 2005.
