First Interstate Bank to Acquire Mountain West

MISSOULA -

First Interstate Bank is acquiring the Helena-based Mountain West Bank. The board of directors with both companies unanimously approved the deal.

Mountain West Bank has assets of almost $650 million, and operates 12 branches throughout central and western Montana. With the acquisition, First Interstate will have total assets of more than $8.2 billion.

That will make it the top deposit market share in the state of Montana. The acquisition is expected to be completed later this year.

First Interstate's CEO said bringing the two companies together will give both banks an opportunity to expand state-wide.
