Griz Beat PSU After Buzzer Issues

Posted: Updated:

Montana and Portland State have played an amazing four overtime periods in their two games against each other this year, but it's how we got to the fourth over time that has people talking.  With eleven seconds left in a tie ball game Portland State would get an offensive rebound and in a bang bang play get a shot off at the buzzer.  The refs ruled it late, but couldn't check the replay because the system is currently broken.

"I had no idea the facilities people just apologized but I had no idea.  We need to do something about that, we need to rent something, because those monitors for replays are huge so we will see what we can do wit that,"said Griz Head Coach Wayne Tinkle.

So the shot was ruled no good and the Griz and Vikings headed to overtime. In the extra period Junior Guard Keron DeShields took over, scoring 11 of his 19 points in the five minute span leading the Griz to an 82-76 win.

"Luckily Keron made some plays for us down the stretch to get us this win," said Tinkle.

"Oh that's big time when I saw him going and I gave him the ball every time because he had it going and I told him just get to the rack because they couldn't stop him and I didn't want him to settle, so when teams are doing that I'm going to give it to him all day," said Senior Guard Kareem Jamar.

Almost overshadowed by the performance of DeShields was the historic mark set by Kareem Jamar. With 14 minutes to go in the second half Jamar hit a three pointer moving him into seventh in school history in scoring passing his friend and former teammate Will Cherry.

"I'm going to text him right now and talk a little smack to him but at the end of the day he has three rings here and I only have two so I have to get another one this year," said Jamar.

Jamar said it was neat to pass Cherry but passing the next guy on the list will be even better, as he needs five more points to pass his coach Wayne Tinkle,

"I know he knows so I will be sure to give him a little love when I pass him in the game so it's going to be exciting," said Jamar.
