Four Loyola Rams Ink LOI's

Posted: Updated:

With the four players committing to NAIA schools this season, and two players from last years team playing for the Griz and Cats respectively, it's safe to say that Missoula Loyola has one of the most talented class B programs in the state.

"This is an amazing group of senior kids that we had go through our football program this year.  To have the number of them that we do who are going on to play college football, I'm really proud of those young men and what they've accomplished this year, and what they're going to accomplish in the future," said Former LSH Football Coach.

"I think it says the Loyola program is a complete dynasty.  We have athletes every single year (who play collegiate).  Loyola is filled with athletes from girls to boys, and I think you'll see a lot more signings next year, that junior class is very athletic," said UM-Western Commit Jake McElroy.

While NAIA players can sign their letter of intent far earlier than FCS and FBS players…Carroll College signee Pat Kosena chose to wait until national signing day before driving to Helena to sign his letter of intent with the Saints.

"It was exhilarating, it was definitely a dream of mine to sign on National Signing day, and to have it come true, it's a once in a lifetime thing that I'll remember forever.  I just needed to take time, and make sure Carroll was the right fit for me, and after falling in love with it, I think I made the right choice, and I'm excited to be a Saint for the next 4-5 years," said Carroll Commit Pat Kosena.

Kosena won't be alone, as teammates Tony Madsen and Matt McHugh will join him at Carroll.   The three all say their new college reminds them of Loyola Sacred Heart…and Carroll's tradition of winning doesn't hurt either.

"Probably the students, the student teacher ratio with small classes, I like that feel, and I'm excited.  Carroll is a very successful program.  Six national championships under Van Diest, that's pretty impressive, and I want to be a part of one," said Carroll Commit Tony Madsen.

"That's huge, and I think it's a factor in all three of our decisions.   We won two state championships here, and we want to win a national championship," said Carroll Commit Matt McHugh.

For Jake McElroy, who will be playing for UM-Western next year, he admits it's hard to picture himself playing against his high school friends, but he does look forward to it.

"You know, it's kind of weird to see all my friends going to Carroll, but again I think it will be good for us to go against each other for the first time, and hopefully we'll see each other on the field real soon," McElroy.

For Back-To-Back class B Champs…winning has become the norm…but a potential National Championship at Carroll…is a welcome challenge.

"We'll see when we get there.  A state championship was definitely special, but a state championship times 50, on a national level, will definitely be special, and hopefully we can go to Carroll in the next 4-5 years, and bring home a couple and make coach Van Diest proud," said Kosena.
