Griz Basketball Fast Starts Helps In Win Over Cats

Posted: Updated:

"There's something about that dark blue that gets me going. We needed this win more than a rivalry. I mean I love the rivalry I feel like I am from Montana," said Griz senior Kareem Jamar.

Kareem Jamar was big time last night for Montana. The Griz struggle rebounding the basketball, so he hauled in a game high 10 boards, along with 20 points. Cats Head Coach Brad Huse acknowledged UM's fast start.

"We had a hard time with Kareem he was comfortable they fed off that. Hutchinson got them going early," said cats head coach Brad Huse.

"We got the ball to big Hutch he made some great moves, I think that might have surprised some folks," said griz head coach Wayne Tinkle.

Griz freshman guard Mario Dunn was also productive. Jamar compares him to last year's star, Will Cherry.

"When he plays aggressive he reminds you of somebody, last year number 5. He played aggressive but that's his thing he's such a nice guy you got to unleash him sometime," said Jamar.

"I got a couple of easy ones in transition early. Guys just double Kareem a lot. Got it to me open lanes were wide open for me so I took them," said Mario Dunn.

Both head coaches have clear objectives after this game.

"The message in the lockeroom the theme last year was humble and hungry.  We were having success we had to stay humble and hungry. We haven't had the success we had a year ago but we still have to remember how we got in this position," said Tinkle.

"We don't have much time to sit around and lick our wounds we got Eastern coming in and Portland everybody if fighting for something right now," said Huse.
