Zoning Committee Makes Recommendations For New Housing Complex

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN -

On Tuesday night, the Bozeman City Zoning Committee will make recommendations to city commissioners on a proposed housing project that has many residents concerned.

The proposed student housing complex project would be located south of Opportunity Way and east of 11th Avenue.

To build the apartments in that area, first the zoning needs to be changed. Right now, the area is zoned for single family homes, but developers are trying to switch it to high-density residential housing.

With the development, Arnold Street and 11th Avenue would be extended. Residents said they are concerned it will create more traffic in their neighborhood and could create an unsafe environment when kids walk to and from Morning Star Elementary School.

"Our code requires us to collect those public comments then they are added to project file. Some are given directly to the city clerk and some are submitted to our office," said Brian Krueger, Bozeman City Planning.

The public zoning meeting will take place on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The vote will go before the city commissioners at their meeting on February 24.

In addition, Bozeman City Commissioners approved the first phase of another student housing project south of West Kagy between 11th and 19th Avenue on Monday night.
