Crime Tracker: Shatter-Resistant Glass Deters Thieves: See Live Demo

SPOKANE, Wash. - One of the easiest ways for a thief to break into a house or business is through the window. It’s a lesson Sergio DeLeon learned the hard way. He’s had several of his windows broken out by criminals trying to get into his Mexican Deli on East Francis. He says one bad guy caused thousands of dollars in damage breaking the glass on his front door just to steal a six-pack of beer.

Now, Sergio is fighting back and installing shatter-resistant glass into his storefront. He hired City Glass to install the product and Sergio’s surveillance video shows that shatter-resistant glass is doing its job. Cameras caught a vandal trying to break into Sergio’s store with a rock. The video shows the glass crack, but it doesn’t break and the vandal can’t get into the store.

Law enforcement says installing an extra layer of protection is key in protecting your property. Even though, the glass might break it requires the bad guy work a lot harder to try and get in. The extra noise from several attempts might attract witnesses or people nearby and prompt them to call 911. It’s also going to buy time for law enforcement to get to the scene.

Deputies recommend shatter-resistant glass or a film called 3M for lower level windows in your home or business. It’s more costly, but it increases security to your property; something Sergio DeLeon says is worth it.

A Pennsylvania judge is scheduled to hold a hearing Monday to determine whether rapper Meek Mill should get a new trial in his decade-old gun and drug convictions.    Mill's attorneys have asked for a new trial based on credibility issues with an officer who testified at his trial. At least three convictions of other defendants based on that officer's testimony have been thrown out this year.
