Temporary Open Lands Policy To Be Put In Place Summer 2014

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

Missoula Parks and Recreation wants the public's opinion on a pilot program it's launching this summer, monitoring the amount of events held on Missoula's open lands.

No policies currently limit the amount of large events, involving 12 or more people, held at Mount Sentinel, Mount Jumbo, and other open lands. After receiving numerous concerns, Missoula Parks and Recreation will put a temporary policy on special events this summer in an attempt to minimize impacts they have on trails, habitats, and vegetation.

"A big goal of managing open space lands is conserving habitat, and healthy habitat, for our native plants and animals, so we want to make sure if any events occur, they're conducted in a way that there are limited impacts to our natural resources," said Conservation Lands Manager, Morgan Valliant.

The pilot program is just an experiment to see how the policy works. You can take a look at the policy, and make comments by visiting Missoula Parks and Recreation.

KHQ.COM - Mid August is about the time that we start to see spiders come into our homes, particularly the hobo spider. August and September is mating season for the hobo and that means you may be seeing more funnel-like webs in and around your home. Males are on a mission to find a female which is why they are a lot more active at this time.
