Belgrade Residents Allowed Home After Shooting

BOZEMAN -

Area residents returned to their homes west of Belgrade late Sunday night after a shooting on Tulip Avenue.

Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin says residents were evacuated after shots were fired from one house into a neighboring house, slightly injuring a resident.

Sheriff deputies and the Bozeman Police Special Response Team set up a perimeter around the suspect residence and tried to negotiate with the alleged shooter.

Gootkin says around 9:45 pm, deputies were able to enter the house and determine the resident was then deceased.

The cause of death is being investigated by the Park County Coroner's Office, which Gootkin says is a normal practice when a death occurs during an active criminal investigation.

The identity of the resident will be released when law enforcement is able to notify next of kin.
