Snowbowl Ski Area Sets Skier Count Record

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

Sunny skies and powdery snow attracted a recording-breaking number of skiers and snowboarders to Snowbowl Ski Area on Saturday.

Snowbowl owner Ronnie Morris said on Sunday that 1,639 people showed up on Saturday.  She mentioned that the last time Snowbowl hit a record of a little more than 1,600 skiers and snowboarders was about three years ago.

Since Wednesday, the ski area received more than 20 inches of snow, with the majority of the powdery "white stuff" falling on Friday.

Morris added that the fresh snow, the sunshine, the return of University of Montana college students and it being Super Bowl weekend created the "perfect storm" and lead to Snowbowl's largest skier count ever.

Snowbowl Ski Area is located in the Lolo National Forest about 20 miles north of Missoula.  It boasts ski trails that span over three mountains.  It is currently open for the winter ski season daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  For online snow report updates, click here.
