Gallatin Historical Society Lets Go Museum Director

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN -

The Gallatin Historical Society and Pioneer Museum is starting a nationwide search for a new director for the first time in 16 years.

The historical society's board of directors decided not to renew John Russell's contract.

Board members said after developing a new strategic plan for the museum, they wanted to go in a new direction.

They said they would like to do more advertising and work with area schools.

They said unlike the rest of Bozeman, the museum hasn't seen much growth recently.

"The museum has kind of plateaued over the last four or five years," said Mark Miller, Gallatin Historical Society board member. "Our membership is not growing; our attendance at the museum is going down."

Miller said they are moving fast and hope to have a new director in place in a couple of months.
