Imagine Butte Resource Center Opens Saturday

Posted: Updated:
BUTTE -

A new community art center in Butte will officially open its doors this weekend in the Uptown area.

The Imagine Butte Resource Center started as an idea from Olivia Everett.

She said Butte has a rich history in arts, but the community center serves as a place for artists to share work and gather new ideas.

"Art is central to generating new ideas and also generating a sense of hope for a community," Everett said. "There's a very exciting place here where we really realize Butte could use a contact zone for artists, a place where artists can gather and that's where the best collaborations occur."

Starting Saturday, it will be the home of art in Butte.

Artists will meet to discuss creations, they will sharpen their craft, and even classes will be offered to the public for those who want to explore the arts.

"We're going to start launching a schedule of classes and workshops," Jennifer Dutoit said. "A lot of it will be the art of print, but also we will host painting and drawing. We will have several writing workshops and we're looking to incorporate performing and music arts as well."

The art resource center features a print studio, an art gallery, a community kitchen, and a classroom for gatherings.

The center is open for folks who become members or take part in the classes offered.

"It's really an opportunity to have a space that's more community owned," Everett said. "We're not necessarily an art institution, but more of a community gathering space."

The Imagine Butte Resource Center will officially open on Saturday at noon.
