Bozeman Airport Offers New Non-Stop Flight

Posted: Updated:

Earlier this month, the Bozeman Yellowstone International airport set the state record for the number of passengers it saw in 2013 at 884,660 passengers.

On Monday, the airport announced it will be adding non-stop flights this summer to Houston, Texas.

"It was somewhat a surprise when they came to us," said Brian Sprenger, Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport Director. "We're very pleased with the news, but it wasn't on a radar screen or something we expected right now."

The United Airlines flights will run Saturdays and Sundays beginning June 28 through August 17.

The non-stop seasonal summer flights will go to the George Bush International airport in Houston, Texas.

"It was really the only market of the top 10 that we did not have non-stop service," said Sprenger. "This indicates that Houston is very desirable to be and people coming from Houston are visiting Montana."

Sprenger said the number of flights out of the Bozeman airport is not typical for a smaller county like Gallatin County.

"This is exceptional for us to have the opportunity to fly to the east coast, the west coast and the gulf coast," said Sprenger. "There are not many locations across the country that can say that."

Sprenger said the Bozeman airport is considered an air service development for the state.

"If it works here then airlines are willing to take some chances and try those the flights in other cities," said Sprenger. "Delta has been very forward in saying the Atlanta service here made them consider service to Missoula, Kalispell and Billings."

This is the first direct flight to Houston in the state of Montana. The Bozeman airport already has seasonal non-stop service flights to Atlanta, Los Angeles, Newark, Portland and San Francisco.

The airport also will be adding Wednesday flights this summer to their non-stop flight to Newark.

Sprenger said they will be announcing another non-stop flight to another part of the country later this week.
