BUTTE -

A Butte-Silver Bow County police officer is receiving medical treatment for a severely damaged finger following a fight with a homeless man Thursday morning.

According to Sheriff Ed Lester, two police officers responded to the Front Street Laundromat at 6 a.m. to remove a homeless man, who was sleeping in the establishment.

When officers woke the man, Lester says he became angry and aggressively attacked the officers.

During the dispute, one officer suffered an injured finger that will need to be surgically repaired.

The homeless man, Sitagilei Matauaina, is charged with two felony counts of assault on a peace officer and is being held at the Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center.
