ABC ALL-STAR: Koni Dole fulfills 5th Grader's Wish

Posted: Updated:
Huntley Project senior Koni Dole has inspired many, including 5th graders Blake Meuli and Padraig Lang in Bozeman. Blake and Padraig wrote Koni a letter asking him to speak at their school. Koni received the letter in study hall.

"Opening it up and I was just like HOLY COW! These kids are awesome. Set my mind right there if they're going to take the time to  write me a letter I'm going to write them back and try to go see them," said Koni Dole.

Koni did see Blake and Padraig. He traveled to Bozeman and talked with many students at Morning Star Elementary School. The boys were appreciative of Koni making the effort.

"Just great having him talk to everybody and just his story is awesome," said Bozeman 5th grader Blake Meuli.

"Really meant a lot. He's a really great man. He's playing football and when he's not playing football he really inspires me and it's really cool to have him come to the school," said Bozeman 5th grader Padraig Lang.

Koni wanted the boys and girls to come away with one clear message.

"Let them know that nothing is impossible and that you can do anything and never give up," said Dole.

Koni has told his story many times, bnut when he told it again to these kids, he still gets emotional.

"I thought it would get old after a while telling it over and over again but still brings tears to my eyes every time I talk about it just all the emotions coming back," said Dole.

The boys were inspired before Koni spoke, but after his talk, they're ready to achieve their goals.

"It's motivated me a lot getting to the point where I want to play bobcat football just like him and he's kind of a guy that  I would really like to be like he's just a great role model for me," said Lang.

"Never give up keep going and never let any obstacles get in your way," said Meuli.

Padraig will remember his experience with Koni for a long time.

"I don't know how I could repay coming here it's just been my dream," said Lang.
