Haven Purchases Land For New Shelter

BOZEMAN -

An organization committed to helping people get out of domestic violence relationships is one step closer to building a new shelter.

Last month, the Bozeman City Commissioners approved Gallatin Valley Land Trust to purchase 12 acres of land, north of the Bozeman Pond.

On Friday, Haven purchased three acres of that land from GVLT. Haven officials said they have had a 42% increase in the number of clients staying at the shelter in the last year.

"We are so excited that we can start a new beginning for Haven," said Angie Makomenaw, Haven Executive Director. "Currently, we have 15 beds and we would love to double that. We would also love to offer a facility where our clients can have their pets."

GVLT plans to build a park on the remaining nine acres of land. That land was purchased using funds from the $15-million Trails, Open Space and Parks bond, approved by voters in November of 2012.
