Slot Limit Gone For Part Of Flathead Lake

KALISPELL -

You can now keep up to a hundred Lake Trout, of any size, per day on the southern part of Flathead Lake.

The Fish, Wildlife, and Parks commission voted on January 9 to get rid of the slot limit for the portion of Flathead Lake within the reservation.

It used to be that Lake Trout between thirty and thirty-six inches had to be thrown back.

The Flathead Reservation Fish and Wildlife board chairman, Joe Brenneman, says this is an effort to try to help the native Bull Trout population recover.

"It's my understanding that they felt that it was kind of unnecessary, and perhaps even silly, to have a specific length of trout that could not be kept," said Brenneman.

The slot limit on the non-native Lake Trout is still in place for the northern part of the Lake.
