Lincoln City Standoff Involves Armed Robbers From Butte

LINCOLN CITY, OR -

A police standoff involving wanted armed robbery suspects from Montana lasted for hours in Lincoln City Friday.

KPTV, The Lincoln City, Oregon Fox Affiliate reports police said it all began just before 4 p.m. Friday when Lincoln City officers received a tip from the FBI about the suspects being in the area.

Police identified the suspects as Dale Wallace and Sarah Jo Johnson, who are wanted for robbing a coin and collectibles shop in Butte, MT. A cell phone ping led investigators to their location in Lincoln City.

Surveillance of their motel began around 1 p.m. Friday. While officers waited for a search warrant, the suspects left the motel, according to police.

Officers followed the pair in undercover vehicles. However, investigators said the suspects realized they were being followed, leading to a high-risk traffic stop.

Police said Wallace got out of the car and started running, with his gun pointed at the officers.

One of the officers intentionally hit the suspect with his car in self-defense, according to police at the scene.

Wallace was taken to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland on Life Flight with injuries described as serious.

Johnson remained in the car for hours in a standoff with police. Officers said they had been negotiating with the woman, who is believed to be armed with a gun.

The standoff unfolded between the Lincoln City Community Center and the Elks Lodge near Highway 101 and Northeast 22nd Avenue
