New Air Ambulance Service For Missoula

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

Missoula hospitals announce major changes to their air ambulance program Monday.

On April 2, Spokane-based Northwest MedStar will operate air ambulance service for Providence Saint Patrick Hospital and Community Medical Center.  The service was previously operated by Life Flight.

In a release issued Monday, hospital officials said they considered the move for months and chose Northwest MedStar because the critical care transport group's goals, services and operational structure better align with the hospitals'.

Life flight's 16 full-time employees were told about the move Monday. They will need to reapply for their positions. Pilots and mechanics will not see any changes as they are contracted with another company.

Life flight's medical director said patients will not notice a difference.
