Shipping Delays Felt Across Montana

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN -

UPS and FedEx drivers were out in full force Thursday delivering packages that were scheduled to be under the Christmas tree Wednesday.

The two companies blame the delays on a high number of orders within the last week before Christmas.

UPS told ABC FOX Montana they expect all of their packages to be delivered Thursday.

But Thursday afternoon, Karina Beasley from Belgrade was still waiting for her gifts to arrive.

This was the first time she shopped online for Christmas gifts.

"I'm a little irritated because I ordered everything December 13 and 14," said Beasley.

UPS and FedEx said they were experiencing shipping problems and bad weather in parts of the country, delaying packages across the U.S.

A shorter shopping season and many Americans, like Beasley, waiting until the last minute to order presents didn't help the cause.

Beasley said her gifts were supposed to arrive by Christmas Eve via FedEx and DHL.

Her package coming through DHL actually went the wrong way.

"It sat in Denver, Colorado for four days and now it is back at the original place it came from, which is Grand Prairie, Texas," said Beasley.

FedEx released a statement to ABC FOX Montana stating incidents like Beasley's were isolated and "we experienced no major service disruptions in the week before Christmas despite heavy volume."

The statement went on to say FedEx is working with customers like Beasley to fix the problems.

"Everyone at every one of these companies have been really nice to me," said Beasley.  "Every one of them I called said hey, this is what is going on, this is all I see and they are just like it will get there. We will track it down and we will figure this out."

Beasley said she learned a lot from this experience.

"I learned to do it the first week of December rather than the 13th or 14th of December."

Since many of the delayed gifts were ordered on Amazon.com, the online retailer is offering shipping refunds and gift cards to customers who are getting their packages late.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One of the great parts about living in Spokane, is if you head out of town in any direction, you're going to run into some beautiful farm land. I grew up south of Spokane, near Plaza, and one of my favorite things to do was to sit on the porch at night and stare south towards Rosalia at all of the rolling hills of wheat, lentils, barley and peas.
