Missoula Food Bank Moves Closer to Holiday Goal

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

The Missoula Food Bank was standing room only Monday morning, as it continues through its busiest time of the year.

Even though demand is high in the holiday season, donations from the community have helped the food bank move closer to its holiday goals.

By December 31, Food Bank Spokeswoman Jessica Allred says the organization hopes to collect $200,000 and 50,000 pounds of food-- and they're getting close.

As of Monday, the Food Bank collected $100,000 and 32,000 pounds of food.

But Allred says there are basic staples they're especially in need of now.

"The biggest products that we ask for are going to be those really easy proteins: canned meats, peanut butter and those things that are easy to prepare if you don't have a full stove or kitchen so those are some of our most wanted items."

Allred says if you're interested in making a cash or food donation, you can bring it to their downtown location.

The food bank will not be open this Wednesday-- Christmas Day.
