Family In Need Receives Christmas Gifts

BOZEMAN -

30 families in the Gallatin Valley received early Christmas gifts on Friday through the Adopt-A-Family program.

"We didn't have anything for Christmas," said Danielle Billingsley, Three Forks resident.

Danielle Billingsley and her husband have six kids. A year ago, her husband was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Since they moved back to Montana six months, financially, it has been a struggle.

"We went from homeless to finding a friend to stay with and financially it's been a mess," said Billingsley.

Billingsley was extremely excited when her family was chosen to be adopted this year.

"The fact that we have something to give them is really amazing because they weren't going to have a Christmas without this," said Billingsley.

She asked for everyday items for her kids.

"We asked for new car seats, new bedding and clothes," said Billingsley.

The number of people and organizations willing to Adopt-A-Family in the Gallatin Valley has more than doubled since last year.

"We had 10 to 12 last year, but this year we received about 30," said Lieutenant Jonathan Woollin, Salvation Army.

Every family received groceries or a gift card to grocery stores. All the kids received two toys and an outfit.

Woollin said it's the generosity of the community that makes this program possible.

"We've seen an increase of people wanting to help this year and we've seen a decrease of people needing assistance this year," said Woollin.

Billingsley is so grateful to the people that adopted her family.

"I can't say thank you enough," said Billingsley. "This was truly a blessing."

The Salvation Army will give Christmas presents to the dozens of families that were not adopted this year on Saturday.
