The Montana Department of Environmental Quality released its final Environmental Impact Statement for a proposed amendment to the Golden Sunlight Mine's operating permit.
The proposal would expand mining in the perimeter of the original mine pit.
It would also allow Golden Sunlight to mine in a second location known as the North Area Pit.
As part of the environmental Impact Statement, the D.E.Q. elected to go with an agency modified alternative to protect water quality.
The D.E.Q.'s final decision for the proposed amendment will be released in early January.
