Jordan Linn Graham's Neighbors Weigh In

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL -

Although Jordan Linn Graham's trial is over, some who knew the couple admit they still do not know what to believe.

Graham and her new husband, Cody Lee Johnson, moved into a new home on Vista Loop after their wedding, where they would have started their lives together. They were so new to the block, that several of the neighbors did not realize the same woman making national headlines lived just a few feet away.

Mary Elerick lives just a few houses down from the couple's first home and says she has been thinking a lot about what happened that day in Glacier National Park.

"He was young and had quite a life ahead of him and it was just gone in a heartbeat and on the heels of a wedding," said Elerick.

No one except Graham herself will ever know what truly happened that day, but Elerick thinks the trial actually became all about honesty.

"I wish that she could have been honest from the beginning despite whatever fears or whatever she was thinking because I think that would have allowed the case to be tried easier," explained Elerick.

For the Elericks, this is a harsh lesson: always tell the truth. In her opinion, that initial lie basically sealed Graham's fate.

"My thoughts are that it's just such a tragedy that we've lost a young man who had such potential and now her life is impacted severely," said Elerick.

Soon, the media frenzy will die down and everyone will return to their lives, their jobs, and their own worries. Elerick says she and her family will continue to think about the people affected by this tragedy, long after the hardship of a trial is over.

"My children and I are praying for everyone to be able to heal eventually," said Elerick.

Elerick says she has lived in that neighborhood longer than the newlyweds. She and her family moved in back in July.
