Angel Tree Helps Provide Christmas Gifts

BOZEMAN -

The holiday season is a time to spend with loved ones, but for some the holidays can be very stressful.

Growing up, Aaron Blair was one of nine children. Christmas was a difficult time for his family because his parents weren't always able to provide gifts for him and his siblings.

"For three years, they really gave back to us when my parents couldn't afford it," said Blair. "I recognize that and I wanted to help them."

This holiday season, Blair wanted to say thank you to all those who helped him, so he decided to help out at the Salvation Army angel tree.

The program is a way for underprivileged families to ask for Christmas assistance. Each tag that hangs from the tree represents one child in the Gallatin Valley who needs help this holiday season. The Salvation Army then provides each child with two gifts and an outfit.

"We try to take away some of the hardness of the season, so that families can provide toys and food to their kids," said Lieutenant Jonathan Woollin, Salvation Army.

"It's really rewarding to see people that can help others because that's what Christmas is all about," said Blair.

Woollin said Christmas time is their busiest time, however seeing the smiling faces when families receive their gifts makes it all worth it.

"The day when we distribute the toys, people come in and they just have joy on their faces," said Woollin. "It's the look of hope because they thought they weren't going to have Christmas and now we can."

Blair is very thankful to the generous community that helped provide Christmas to his family.

"It's so great to get something that you're not expecting at all," said Blair "It's really overwhelming and I would like to thank those people that helped my family out."

Last year, the Salvation Army provided gifts to 350 families.

The angel tree is located in the Gallatin Valley Mall. All donations should be unwrapped and returned to the angel tree or the Salvation Army by December 16.
