Big Sky Hoops Ready For Opener

Posted: Updated:

As the basketball season starts this week there's a different feeling at Big Sky's practice.  The Eagles have a new Head Coach in Damian Droessler who's brought energy into the program.

"Oh I mean we are so excited, we have been waiting all season for this.  I mean a new coach that means new energy and we are ready to prove to everyone we are better than we were last year," said Junior Guard Madisyn Shiade.

"It's been great so far it's early in the season there's a lot to be determined and figured out but the kids are working hard so it makes for an enjoyable part," said Eagles Head Coach Damian Droessler.

Droessler, who recently coached at St. Regis, brings a different style of coaching and a change that players are looking forward to.

"Well the nervy and we haven't experienced something new and something new is exactly what we needed," said Shiade.

"I think I am pretty intense, I want the kids to improve and want what's best for them.  We are going to continue to work and I am on them all the time, there's never a time off, and I think they have picked up on that attitude as well," said Droessler.

The Eagles also have some good talent on this squad as well as a good senior class they can rely on especially early on.

"To this point it's been great having the senior leadership and some girls that can play some basketball and they know how to work and they've been around each other for awhile so the camaraderie is kind of there," said Droessler.

Big Sky hopes to make the necessary strides to get back the state tournament, and give that other team in the city a run for their money.

"We just want to compete with Sentinel, granted they won two state championships, but we just want to prove we could possibly beat them," said Shiade.

The Eagles open up on Friday against Billings West.
