Bozeman Airport Offers Pre Screening Lane

Posted: Updated:

The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is the first airport in Montana to offer TSA pre-check, a faster way for passengers to go through security.

The Bozeman airport introduced TSA pre-check to passengers on Tuesday.

"It allows us to pre-clear some passengers and provide expedited screening to those who are considered low risk or trusted travelers," said Lorie Dankers, TSA Public Affairs.

The screening program allows passengers to leave certain items on such as shoes, light outerwear and belts. It also allows people to keep lap tops in their cases.

"There are certain people who impose a lower risk. The pre-check identifies those people upfront, pre-clears them then runs them through a different experience," said Dankers.

Passengers who are eligible for pre-check include U.S. citizens of frequent traveler programs and members of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Trusted Traveler program.

Travelers can also sign up on a flight-to-flight basis. TSA will electronically analyze their personal information during the reservation process and conduct a risk assessment.

"The information is embedded in the barcode of the boarding pass. TSA scans the boarding pass at the security check point and if approved for expedited screening, the passenger is then directed to TSA pre check lane," said Dankers.

And passengers already say it is making going through airport security much better.

"There is less fiddling around," said Karen Cates, passenger. "It's hard having to take off my coat and shoes everytime I go through security. Now, I can just put things right on the conveyor belt."

"It makes it a lot easier to be on time for your flight," said Michael Smith, passenger.

Bozeman airport is one of over 100 airports across the nation to offer TSA pre-check. More than 20-million passengers nationwide have used the TSA expedited screening process since it launched in October 2011.
