Former Butte Judge and Police Officer Dies at 68

BUTTE -

Former Butte-Silver Bow Justice of the Peace and police officer, Bob Lee, died over the weekend.

According to Butte-Silver Bow County Undersheriff George Skuletich, the 68-year-old did not wake up Saturday morning while sleeping at his brother's home.

Lee spent 23 years as a Butte-Silver Bow County police officer, 8 as a county judge, and more than ten years as a bailiff.

He also battled drug addiction that landed him in legal trouble.

In May, Lee received a three-year deferred sentence for "doctor shopping" for methadone.

In June he was arrested again for driving the wrong way on Interstate 90 allegedly while under the influence of drugs.

"I think people should focus on his 35 years of service to Butte-Silver Bow," said Undersheriff George Skuletich. "He was a policeman for 20 something years, he was a court bailiff for a while, and then was also elected judge on three separate occasions. So there was a lot of respect out there for the man."

When a former police officer dies, the department will do a ceremony by family request.

Undersheriff Skuletich says the Lee family has not asked for the ceremony at this time.
